Faux flooring doesn’t have to look “fake”. There are so many wonderful options out there these days! This farmhouse vinyl plank flooring is a big win!!

Hey Friends! Today I’m sharing one of the most exciting changes in the One Room Challenge, the brand new “Farmhouse Vinyl Plank Flooring“!
I LOVE this stuff. :)

It is beyond my expectations in every way. (PIN it to save for ideas on farmhouse vinyl plank flooring!)

And just like my little photo above says, it’s the most realistic rustic looking farmhouse vinyl plank flooring I’ve seen!
This stuff is awesome. I am SO happy I came across it.

And the winner is….. Smartcore and is called Blue Ridge Pine.

**If  you are new here, I joined in on the One Room Challenge hosted by Calling It Home.
I decided to do our laundry room in a “Coastal Farmhouse” style.
Visit this first post in the challenge to see how it looked when we started and the plans for the room, etc.
>>> “Coastal Farmhouse Laundry Room Plans, Week 1”

So, you might remember I was undecided between two other vinyl planks.
One of them was in this design series by Smartcore called “Woodford Oak”….

Isn’t is also wonderful? I loved it too but it just wasn’t going to work out next to the flooring adjacent in the family room.
It also wasn’t going to work out so well with the newly, walnut stained door.

So I went back to the drawing board!

I kept looking at samples in that “weathered” wood variety because I really wanted that look in there….or so I thought.
But it needed to stay on the warm side because of those other wood areas I mentioned.
And then, just as I was looking this Woodford Oak over again, I saw the Blue Ridge Pine right next to it on the sample board!
A truly “duh” moment.
I realized it didn’t need to be “gray weathered” looking, just sort of a rustic, farmhouse vinyl plank flooring look.
And the Blue Ridge Pine was the perfect rustic touch I was looking for!
Plus it looked great with both the door and the flooring next to the laundry room.

Win-win! Yay!

Sadly it was quite the adventure trying to wrangle all the boxes we needed.
Apparently I am not the only one in love with it! ;) I am told it is sold out quite often.
I had to travel to several stores to collect enough to do our room…but it was SO worth it.

So let’s back up a bit.

Once I decided on this flooring (or hoped to, if it matched my other wood areas), I bought the only box that store had to bring home to match.

We opened it up and laid it next to the floor and was thrilled with what we saw.
It looks really nice next to the flooring we have in the family room.

Want to see some of these projects in “live” time? Hop on over and follow along with me on INSTAGRAM. I’m always sharing in my stories as I’m doing projects, finding new furniture, fun finds….just all the day to day behind the scenes.

Once I drove all over creation to locate the boxes, we got right to work.
Then had to get my cutie in action there! He whistles while he works, so cute, I love it.

These can lay right over the old vinyl flooring and are 100% waterproof, which is perfect for a laundry and bath.

As you can see, we are carrying the farmhouse vinyl plank flooring right on into the bathroom.

I think it’s going to look so good in our Coastal Farmhouse Guest Bath.

And ….

What do you think?

Farmhouse Vinyl Plank Flooring - Most Realistic Wood Look - artsychicksrule.com

I love that is still has that little bit of gray weathered look in some of the planks.

I was also very thrilled with the variety of design in the vinyl planks.
That just makes it all the more realistic.

I mean, just look….

I laid the cabinet doors where they are going to go because I haven’t been able to put them up yet.
We were thinking we would maybe put them back up with hidden hinges but sadly they won’t line up properly.
So….I’m either painting the hinges white (not ideal), or using bronze hinges.
I love the sleek white appearance but if we use the bronze hinges then they will break that up a bit.
It might be some nice contrast though, since the room is still very white.

But you can mostly see how it’s going to look.

Now…..I want to ask your opinion again.

No handles on the drawers, like above, or these bronze ones below….

I think I’m kind of liking the handles ….I think…. but would love to hear what you think.
Plus, if the hinges will end up being bronze, these might look nice.
And I wonder if I should just add the handles on the drawers and none on the doors? Or yes, on the doors too?
I would still leave the right side cabinet hardware-free since I wouldn’t want anything sticking out as you walk by it.
What do you think?

And by the way, I am just loving having the the washer/dryer all the way against that far wall.
If you remember in the One Room Challenge, Week 1 post, we had a rolling hamper against the wall which put the washer/dryer further down into the main part of the walkway.
This feels so much more open and roomy.

And more progress this week, a new rug….

…it’s from Wayfair and I really do love it….just not in this room. :/
I think it’s a bit too dark and it’s just doesn’t have the right feel.

So I decided to go with the exact one I picked out for my plan below…..

And…..

Farmhouse Vinyl Plank Flooring - Most Realistic Wood Look - artsychicksrule.com

…it’s a winner!
It’s a nice, pale shade of aqua which is exactly the feel I wanted in there.
But I do hate to cover up that gorgeous floor, at all.

BUT …. ugh, do you see it?
The pattern is slightly off center. I kept looking at it thinking I was seeing things.
But no, look at the outside trim on the left and right and you can see much more on the right, which is pushing the design off center.
Bum-mer.
I wonder how crazy that will make me over time?
It’s one of those things that once you see, you can’t not see it.

Maybe I’ll send it back and try again? What a pain. Ugh.

But other than that, what do you think? Rug number 2 is the winner?
I think so!

And that, my friends, is all I have to share this week! Ack.
Yes, that means we have much work ahead of us still and short on time.
Reveal day is next Thursday which means the room needs to be done AND decorated by Tuesday at the latest so I can take photos, edit them and write the post.

So I’m signing off here and getting back to work!

Be sure to PIN this for later!!

UPDATE!
We’ve since changed our decor somewhat and moved away from the “very rustic” farmhouse look. This floor is still a lovely choice for those with that style of decor and I do still recommend it for that. It’s a great flooring product! However, as mentioned above, we really desired to replace the flooring in our entire downstairs living area and chose this one because the color matched existing flooring adjacent to it. We have since been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to do just that and we adore the new floor that flows through our entire downstairs space! Both are beautiful options. It just depends on the look and style of flooring you are after.
But this new one is a much more affordable option and great for the home DIYer!
Want to know more about the new flooring we chose?

Check out this post, here.

  1. I love your new floors, they are gorgeous. A perfect pick. Do you really need a rug in there? I do like the aqua color for the room. Love watching your progress and now look forward to your reveal.

    1. Thanks Joan! :) I just love them too! I’m not sure if I need the rug. It was just one of those things, I had one before, so thought I’d get another. I might have to finish up, decorate and then decide. I do hate to cover that pretty floor but love the aqua it brings to the room! xo

  2. Love the flooring. Do like the handles on the drawers and think the doors need handles also. Think the bronze matches the flooring very well. Looking forward to seeing the room decorated.

    1. Thanks Janice! I picked up some handles to match the pulls today. Not sure if I’ll use them yet but I’ve got em right here and ready! ;) xo

  3. Hey Nancy,
I did the vinyl plank floors in my whole house in a dark gray and yellow, gray and turquoise colors. LOVE the combination! So easy to clean any spills and with pets it is the best!! Have a great day! Love ya
    Vila

    1. Hey Vila! Oh, sounds pretty! I have some wood floors in my home but wouldn’t hesitate to put this all over. It’s so pretty and waterproof too. Like you said, can’t beat it! xoxo

    1. Thanks for the input Leslie! I’m think I’ve decided to go ahead with the handles on the drawers but the doors, not sure yet! I appreciate your thoughts! xo

  4. I like the handles on the drawers and the doors, it ties everything in nicely with your light fixture. I would have to send the rug back, that off-centered design would drive me crazy!
I love how everything is turning out. The flooring is gorgeous!

    1. Thanks Kathy! Who knew you could love a floor this much! ;) I just adore it! I picked up some knobs to match the pulls today, so we’ll see! And yes, I actually called last night and already have another on the way! lol I knew it would drive me batty! xo

  5. Love the floor, great choice!
Definitely like the handles. They provide “relief” from stark white and tie the room together. The handles pull in the metal elements (light fixture, washer/dryer knobs, and clothing rod) and make the room a coordinated family :)

    1. Thanks Rebecca! I think you are so right there! So much white. I’m now debating my shelving choices, white or walnut stained. ;) Thanks for the input! xo

  6. Wow!! The room looks great! I like ve the flooring. I think handles on both drawers and doors, especially in a laundry room. I think it would help with wear and tear on your cabinets. Just my opinion, of course.

    1. Thanks Sally, I’m just giddy over that flooring! :) Yay, I picked up some knobs to match today so we’ll see! xo Thanks so much for the input!!

  7. I would use the hardware on doors and drawers. I don’t care for the shape of the rug as it emphasis the “bowling lane” look of the room. I would use a different shaped rug. The room is going to be beautiful. What an improvement!

    1. Oh yep, I hadn’t thought of that, it does sort of do that. And thank you! I can’t wait til we finish…because I’m excited to finish and because I’m tired! ;) xo

  8. Hi Nancy,

Love what you are doing in your laundry room, especially the milk paint on your cabinets !! Do you like the milk over the chalk and if so why ? We will be enlarging our laundry room soon ( and will use your type flooring :) and also painting our ” orangy ” oak kitchen cabinets . What a huge decision on what type paint to use !! Since you have used both ,I was wondering IF you had it all to do over ,would you still use one of these or use a traditional paint product ??? Thanks for your imput .
    Shelby

    1. Hi Shelby, Thanks so much! Hmm, I’m not sure I like one that much over the other. I really do love both paints. Having used both, I am probably leaning a bit more towards Milk Paint for cabinets though. But with that said, I don’t think I’d hesitate to paint again with Chalk Paint. (just not wax as a sealer on cabinetry) And the answer to your last question, most definitely, YES.
I highly prefer it over regular latex, etc.
Hope this helps and good luck with your room! And yay, on the flooring! It’s a keeper, for sure! xo

  9. Gorgeous floor! I love the color variations – great choice!
We did our bathroom floor in a grey/white beach wood look. Love vinyl planks!

    1. Oh my gosh, me too Michelle! Those variations are what sold me, I think! I LOVE them. Bet yours is pretty too! xo

  10. I love the flooring!! I agree with handles on drawers and cupboards. I think you could do without a rug. Live with no rug for a while and see how you like it.

    1. Thanks Julie! :) Yay, I picked up some matching knobs today! We’ll see if they make it to the doors! ;) And yep, I am really second guessing the rug right now. I’m going to decorate and then see how I feel about it. Thanks so much for the input! :) xo

  11. Okay… love everything you are doing here! I’m wanting to, eventually, use the vinyl planks in my kitchen/bathroom. I’ve heard only good about them, and have had several friends in the last couple months use them.

Love the aqua rug… it’s a winner. I’m sure you can see it more clearly in person, but I still can’t see the off-centered issue in the pic. However, I’m like you. I would probably send it back and try again (especially when you put in good money for something, you want it right). Last night, at HL, I found a cute little wall hanging with a hook, but on EVERY SINGLE ONE the hook was off-center. What the what?! Anyways… yeah, didn’t buy it.

I LOVE the drawer pulls. I think they give it just the right amount of farmhouse warmth it needs. :-) And, I would probably go with the oil-rubbed hinges, too. :-) However, might wait until the hinges are installed to see if the doors can ‘handle’ (see what I did there? ;-) ) the additional hardware. You may not need it. :-)

    Just my 2 cents… or more! :-)

    1. Hi Julie and thank you! :)
OH yes, it was quite off centered so I actually called last night and they are sending me a replacement. I knew it would drive me bonkers!
And that’s just crazy about the wall hangings with a hook. How hard is it to get them straight? You’d almost think that was the look they were going for!

Yep, I’m fairly certain the pulls are going on the drawers. I bought knobs for the doors today but still undecided on those.
And you are so right about waiting to see how the hinges look before adding the knobs. Definitely doing that. (and yes, I did see what you did there, lol, made me laugh!)
Thanks for the input, really appreciate it! xo

  12. LOVE THAT FLOOR! and YES to the cup handle pulls!! and NO to that off-centered rug. it would drive me nuts (hubs says that is not much of a trip!)

    1. Thanks Tammy! And that’s exactly how I feel!! haha I just LOVE it! Yay! I think the pulls are a definite. The knobs on the doors are uncertain still (but I did buy some today). And yep, I was on the phone last night getting another rug sent to me! It would have driven me crazy! And hah, that’s sounds like something my hubby might say! ;)

  13. I really like your new flooring. I think the handles on the drawers would look really nice but I don’t think they’re necessary on the doors.

    1. Thank you Bonnie! And, yes, I’ve pretty much decided to use the pulls but am unsure on the knobs just yet also. Thanks so much for your input, it’s so appreciated! :)

  14. Love the flooring and Yes the handles on the drawers and doors and do send the rug back as that will absolutely drive you crazy every time you go in the room. I know it would drive me crazy for sure. I say the floor is too pretty to cover it

    1. Thanks Colleen! Yay, I’m pretty much decided on pulls but did pick up knobs today. Uncertain if they will make it to the doors yet but we’ll see once I put on those hinges. :) And yes, you are so right, I would have driven me batty! I knew this so much that I actually called last night and have them sending me a replacement! :) Although, now, like you say, I’m unsure if I’ll use it in there. Thank you for your imput. Really do appreciate it! :)

  15. WOW! I have never seen a floor like that and I am blown away. We live in a 140 year old house with 140 year old pine floors and I would NEVER know yours are not the real deal. Good job! Cannot wait to see the REVEAL!

    1. I know, isn’t it crazy? It looks SO realistic I can hardly believe it’s vinyl. And thank you! :)

  16. Love the floors!!!! I say yes to the drawer pulls and knobs for the doors. Not sure about the rug…it seems to be competing with the floors for attention. I think a simple sisal runner might work better and it can be farmhouse or coastal and won’t compete with the floors. You are going to have one gorgeous laundry room when you’re done!! Can’t believe the deadline is next week already! XOXO

    1. Thanks Christy! Me too! I want to put them everywhere! ;) We actually may really use them in our master bath makeover. They are great. And yep, pretty sure I’m going with knobs and pulls. And the rug, I think, may lose out altogether! We’ll see! :) xo

  17. The flooring is beautiful! Yes to the cup pulls and knobs…I’m hardware girl. I do love the aqua rug but perhaps a smaller size? It does cover quite a bit of the floor. If the shelves are stained, it may look a bit more farmhouse/ white more coastal? I might wait until wood countertop is in to decide. If you do decide on white shelves, bronzey or iron type brackets would be cute. Love it!!

    1. Thanks Susie! :) I’m pretty certain the hardware is a go! I’ve considered smaller on the rug but think it may have to go altogether. I *think* we have decided to do white shelving to keep the bright, open feel that we achieved with removing the cabinets. Maybe with bronze brackets for a little contrast. You and I are on the same page! :) And yep, great idea to wait until the counter top is done. We are working on that now. (and I’m trying to decide that finish too! lol ) Thanks for the input, much appreciated! xo

  18. I’ve been looking at waterproof vinyl for almost a year. (Had to finish the backyard first.) There are so many beautiful plank patterns out there. As it is so dry here in Las Vegas, I do wonder about static electricity. Any issues? Pulls and knobs, good choice. I used the oval knob from Lowe’s, simple. Ditch the rug, tho I do love #2’s color. Love your laundry but where is dog bathing tub? Just dreaming!

    1. Hi Carol,
I haven’t noticed any issues at all here but I live in the humid, somewhat damp coastal area. :)
I do love the color of #2 also but think it’s not making it into the room after all!
And haha yes, darn, that IS missing! I’d LOVE to have a dog bathing tub….next house! ;)
      xo
      Nancy

  19. I love the floor. I put vinyl flooring planks in the master bath of my last house and it looked great. Everyone always thought it was actual hardwood and figured I had lost my mind for putting hardwood floors in such a high humidity location. They were shocked when I told them it was vinyl. But I haven’t seen the weathered look yet…it’s really cool. And I definitely think you should add the bronze pulls on the cabinet doors.

    1. Thank you Lena! Yes on the hardware! :) And I do love that flooring too. So much, in fact, that we’ve decided to also use it in our master bath makeover (we are in the midst of that too). Glad to hear yours was well received! :) xo

  20. So excited I ran across your post. Just last weekend we had the same moment standing n gazing at samples and decided on the Blue Ridge Pine. Then of course you get on Internet n doubt yourself… Your blog helped me soooo much; I love your floor and I know I will love mine. Thanks again for sharing your room is beautiful!

    1. Oh yay!!! Isn’t it the best? I just ADORE it!! I know you will love it too!! xo (and thank you!! :) )

  21. So happy I stumbled upon your blog! Such fun!
How is the Blue Ridge Pine vinyl holding up for you? I have kids and two dogs and we’re in the middle of remodeling and I am considering this flooring for the main level of our home. Would love your feedback!

    1. Yay! So happy to have you here Christina! :) Yep, the Blue Ridge Pine is awesome! It is only in the laundry but we have a golden and have had no issues at all. I absolutely love it! We are planning to also install it in our master bath/closet area that we are remodeling. :)

  22. Love what you did with the laundry room and today’s update with the messenger board redo. We actually have a dark laundry room and would love to do the slat wall overhaul. Our daughter is doing a major remodel on her home right now and has used the slat wall in her main bathroom. We live on a farm and have nasty goat head weeds to contend with, which have annihilated my linoleum! She used the vinyl planking in her kitchen, dining room, and bathrooms…loves it. They bought the thickest product and even tried to scratch the samples with knives…held up beautifully. I have chosen the same plank as you for my farmhouse kitchen and laundry room redo. Thanks for all your wonderful ideas and tips.

    Paulette…southeastern Oregon

    1. Oh I’d love to live on a farm! How wonderful to have all that space. :) And yay, I think you will love the flooring, we do! :) xo

  23. Hi Nancy! just checking in on your floor. It’s been about, what, 6-7 months? Are you still in love with it? We will be doing our entire house in that flooring, all 1280 sq ft.! I have a very small house but I’m thinking the Blue Ridge Pine might be too dark for us. Every time I go to look at the colors I change my mind. On a side note, we live in Las Vegas, NV so our exterior is Southwestern, which I HATE!
Thanks for all your ideas and tutorials! I let you work out all the bugs before I attempt my projects!

    1. Hey Carol! Yep…and yep still love it! I’m very happy with it and honestly, I don’t think it would be too dark at all but I know that’s a personal preference/opinion. :) They did have a lighter, grayish toned one too you might look at. It is hard choosing, I know! But I’m so glad I went with this one. I looked at a LOT. You are so welcome, and I love that you let me work out the bugs for ya first!! ;) Let me know what you end up going with! xoxo

      1. I just purchased 100 boxes of this flooring and will be installing it in the entire downstairs of my house plus the upstairs hallway. I wouldn’t normally go with something rustic but when I saw it in the store I fell in love with it and nothing else compared. I currently have very light carpet and nearly white sheet vinyl so I’m having a hard time imagining what this floor will look like once down. I’m glad to hear after 6 months you are still happy with it. I also bought a box and laid it up against all my different furniture. It looks great with cherry, travertine, light stained cabinets and painted black cabinets. Nothing clashes with it.

        1. Oh that’s awesome Tracee! Sounds like it will be perfect, I know you are going to love it! I’m very happy with mine. And I already told my husband, I love it so much I’d surely do my entire home if it needed it! ;) xo

          1. What is the farmhouse vinyl plank? It is Armstrong, Rugged Brown? We are building and I’m planning on that floor, so hoping yours is this.
            Thanks.

          2. Hi Wendie, I listed a link to the exact flooring here in the post. It’s in the text of the post, you might have missed it. It’s Smartcore, Blue Ridge Pine. :)

          3. We are thinking of doing our home. Is it loud or echoes like old laminate or does it feel solid when you walk on it like real wood? My fear it will be loud.

          4. No, not at all. It is very solid sounding and feeling. I don’t like the loud, echo-y, clicky sound of some laminates. This one does not have that at all. VERY happy with it! Go by and get a sample, if you can. Good luck!

  24. Hi…How is the floor holding up, any issues with planks coming apart or coming up? I love the look and was thinking of it in the kitchen but the living room and dining room both have hard wood floors. Do you have the floor next to hardwood? How does it look? Thanks for your help. Happy New Year

    1. Hi Kim,

The floor is holding up great! I’m so very happy with it and highly recommend it. I do have it next to hardwood in another room. I think there is a picture in that post that shows a little snippet of both floors together. I don’t think I have one with them installed though. I don’t mind it too much because they are totally different styles of wood so it doesn’t look like I was trying to be matchy matchy. :)

  25. Hi Nancy,
I think you are my new pinterest twin! haha The floors are gorgeous. I am dealing with a big cherry kitchen. I have cherry cabinets and cherry island and cherry floors. It’s time for a change-10 years plus wanting to change it up. The problem I’m having is that our great room (open to the kitchen) is carpet and the flooring stops at the carpet. This floor is my pick for tying the entire house together from the front door to the back wall of my great room to create that flow that the eye tends to take in when entering a home. I have shopped elsewhere but can’t seem to find the beauty that these bring together…warm and cool hues intertwined. I’ll post back if we do this project. Flooring guys come measure next week. ?

    1. Hi Kim!! And oh, haha, that is funny!! Thank you, we love the flooring. Yes, that’s the perfect way to describe this particular flooring!! Warm and cool. Good luck with the project! And, yes, do let me know!! xoxo

  26. Now that your flooring has been installed for a couple of years, I’m wondering how its holding up? Do you have pets with claws and how is it with them? I’d love to put vinyl planks throughout my second story (bedroom level), and I’ve heard it’s very durable. Is that your experience as well?

    1. Hi Ginny,
We’ve had the floor installed for a year and it’s done very well so far. No scratches at all. Nothing! I have no doubt it will continue to hold up wonderfully. (and yes, 3 clawed animals live here…and they look like the day we installed them) :) xo

  27. Hey Nancy,
I am replacing all my downstairs flooring and am shopping the Lowe’s SmartCore Uktra Blue Ridge Aline you showed installed on this site. I have read multiple comments in Lowe’s website about it no staying locked and scratching. Would you mind telling me your thoughts since you have had them a while? I appreciate it.
    Andrea

    1. Hi Andrea! We only had it in a small laundry but no issues with either of those at all. I’m wondering if the others might not have been installed correctly?? And no issues with scratching either. It’s a beautiful floor! :)

  28. Hi Nancy, thank you so much for this post! I was just looking at Blue Ridge Pine at Lowes and I was trying to get a sense of what it would look like installed – and came across your post. Your laundry room looks GORGEOUS! And I’m glad to hear it’s held up! I have two small dogs and we are planning to put it in our living room and bedroom.
I was wondering – do you remember, what is the name of the rug you returned? I think it might look good for what I’m planning in the bedroom redecoration!

    Thank you!

    1. You are very welcome, Janet! The link to the rug is actually at the bottom of the post. I think it was called Valencia. :)

  29. We just installed the blue ridge pine in our master bedroom and our guest room- we have 2 more bedrooms , great room, kitchen and hallway to go- we love the look of it- easy to install !

    1. Hi Alicia!

Hmm, well you should be able to but you’d need to make sure the tiles are not loose, etc. Also, they would need to be flat because you would end up being able to see the dips where the grout lines are etc. You might want to give the manufacturer a call to see what they suggest.

  30. Hi there,

We are considering these floors on our main level but have autumn maple trim, kitchen cabinets and built-ins. Do you think this would be too much or too dark??

    1. Hi Amy, I’m not sure how dark autumn maple trim is but I think too dark or too light is subjective. There are lighter and darker areas in this flooring so it might be just right. My suggestion would be to buy one box and lay the pieces out together in a room that you are looking to use it in (or all of them, one at a time) to see how you feel about it. If you don’t love it, you should be able to box it up and return it. :)

  31. Hi Amy! I saw your post with the Blue Ridge Pine floors and feel in LOVE! I am redoing my kitchen with grey cabinets – S5 castle grey to be exact. I guess you could say they are a medium grey. White subway tile and some wood open shelving mixed in. What’s your thoughts on using this floor?
    Thanks! – Marnie

    1. I don’t think you can go wrong with it as it’s waterproof and quite lovely. Plus, it has a variation of colors (including gray) which should go nicely with what you have planned!

  32. Love the flooring We just put this in our cabin a month ago. It took me 6 months to find the right flooring. The colors are beautiful & match up with everything. Just need to find the right stain for our base boards. The floors hold up because we had left a piece in the weather & it held up to the rain & sun…lol
